ভালোবাসায়, সাহচর্যে, যত্নে, ইটে ওপরে ও নিচে প্রবীণের হাত থেকে নবীনের হাতে হাতে বড় হতে থেকেছে আমাদের এই প্রিয় সংগঠন। দৈনন্দিন জীবনের বাইরে শিকড়ের ছোঁয়া আমরা এখানেই খুঁজি। আমাদের আনন্দ, মান, অভিমান, প্রাণের বন্ধু থেকে আত্মীয়তার অনুভূতি সবটাই প্রাণকেন্দ্র অনেকটা হলেও এই ক্লাবই।
Founded in 1977 by a small group of Bengali families in British Columbia, LMBCS began with a simple idea — to stay connected to our language, culture, music, and traditions while building a sense of home away from home.
Over the decades, the society has grown into a vibrant community bringing together Bengalis and friends of Bengal from across Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, and the Fraser Valley. From Poila Boishakh to Basonto utsab to choruibhati, theatre, literature, food, and community gatherings, LMBCS continues to create spaces where culture is shared across generations.
For some, LMBCS is a reminder of home. For others, it is where children hear Bangla songs for the first time, make lifelong friendships, and discover their roots. Above all, it is a community built on warmth, volunteer spirit, and togetherness.
Because Bengali culture in Vancouver should be joyful, shared, and yours to celebrate.

বন্ধু তোমায় এ গান শোনাবো বিকেলবেলায়
বৈশাখ / জ্যৈষ্ঠ মাসে আমি ওরফে LMBCS শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করি বাংলার সংস্কৃতি ও সাহিত্য জগতের কারিগরদের প্রতি। আমার পরিবারের ছোট, বড় সদস্য ও বন্ধুরা ঘরোয়া আড্ডার পরিবেশে সান্ধ্যকালীন জমায়েতে, নাচে, গানে, কবিতায়, সুরের মূর্ছনায়, ভরিয়ে তোলে মন। পুরাতনী থেকে বাংলা ব্যান্ড, স্বর্ণযুগের স্মৃতি রোমন্থন, বাচ্চাদের আদুরে পরিবেশনা, নৃত্যনাট্য এবং আরও কত কি! আর হ্যাঁ! সাথে অবশ্যই থাকে খাওয়া দাওয়া!

বন ভোজন / Summer Picnic
ও আকাশ সোনা সোনা, এ মাটি সবুজ সবুজ
প্রতি বছর জুলাই মাসে সবাই মিলে আমরা একটা পার্কে গিয়ে চড়ুইভাতি করি। ওজন দেখে পাকা কাতলা মাছ কেনা, একসাথে মাংসের আলুর খোসা ছাড়ানো এক দিন আগে, পিকনিকের দিন সকালে চা আর মুড়ি মাখা দিয়ে প্রাতরাশ করা আর সাথে দেদার আড্ডা। সবাই মিলে একসাথে রান্না করে তারপর খেতে বসে আগামী বছরের মেনু ঠিক করা হয়। কারণ বাঙালী পেট পুজোয় বিশ্বাসী।
This is our most cherished outdoor event. Every summer, we make the most of the season's fleeting sunshine by spending a day together in the outdoors. We bask in the warmth of the sun, seek refuge under shady trees, spot birds and wildlife, and occasionally work up an appetite with a leisurely hike.
And what an appetite it is! No LMBCS picnic would be complete without a lavish spread of Bengali snacks and a hearty lunch, lovingly planned, prepared, and served by the Julia Child and Gordon Ramsay equivalents of our community. As the aromas of kosha mangsho fill the air, friendly debates break out what should be on next year's menu.
By the end of the day, there are full stomachs, tired legs, plenty of laughter, and enough memories to keep us going until we gather again the following summer.
শারদ উৎসব / Sharad Utsab
রাঙা হিল্লোলে ধরণী যে দোলে
আশ্বিন মাসের তিনটে দিনের জন্য আমি বছরভর অপেক্ষা করে থাকি। সারা বছর ধরে আমার পরিবারের কর্তৃপক্ষ, পরিবারের সদস্যদের জন্য অনেক আনন্দঘন কর্মসূচির আয়োজন করে। তবে সব কিছুকে ছাপিয়ে যায় শারদোৎসব। আমি দেখি কি পরম স্নেহে, অক্লান্ত পরিশ্রমে মানুষগুলো সব ব্যবস্থাপনার পরিকল্পনা করে। অবশেষে আসে সেই তিন দিন। গমগম করে আমার প্রাঙ্গণ। কতো চেনা মুখের হাসি, কতো অচেনা মুখের কৌতূহল কি হবে এই কটা দিনে। নতুন মানুষকে পরিবারের আদরের ঘেরাটোপে টেনে নেওয়া, পুরোনোদের সাথে স্মৃতি রোমন্থন করা আর বন্ধুদের সাথে হুল্লোড়। অঞ্জলি, সন্ধিপুজো, খাওয়া, সাজ, ঢাক, ধুনুচি, বিসর্জনের নাচ - ষোলো আনা প্রাপ্তি।
Like every Bengali around the globe we are no exception in taking immense pride in celebrating our UNESCO recognized cultural and social heritage of Bengal. Decked up in Fall colors, nature adds fitting mirth to the celebration. In LMBCS this means three days of jubilance, culture, food and community preceded by months of planning and hard work. But who’s complaining?!

সৃষ্টি সুখের উল্লাসে
এখানে সবাই মিলে আমাকে নিয়ে গোটা বছর মাতামাতি করে।
গোধূলি আলেখ্য, বিজয়া সম্মিলনী, দীপাবলি, বসন্ত উৎসব- কোনটা ছেড়ে কোনটা বলবো! একসাথে নতুন অনুষ্ঠানের পরিকল্পনা, তার মহড়া দেওয়া, সব শেষে এক গাল হাসি নিয়ে পরের বারের জন্য অপেক্ষা করা।
সৃষ্টি সুখের উল্লাসে আমার বাঙালি মন ফিরে ফিরে পায় তার শিকড়।
বাংলা বিদ্যালয়ে কচি কাঁচাদের কিচির মিচির, তাদেরকে হাসি -খুশি, ঠাকুমার ঝুলি থেকে গল্প শোনানো, স্বরবর্ণ-ব্যঞ্জনবর্ণের সাথে পরিচয় করানো -প্রধান লক্ষ্যও আমরা এখানে আগলে রাখি — ভালোবেসে বাংলাকে।
Throughout the year, our community comes together to celebrate, create and stay connected — from Godhuli Alekhya and Bijoya Sammilani to Diwali and Basanta Utsav. The planning, rehearsals, laughter and anticipation are as much a part of these traditions as the celebrations themselves.
At our Bangla School, a new generation discovers the language through stories, songs and shared moments. Together, these gatherings keep our Bengali roots, language and culture alive and flourishing far from home.
ঐতিহ্যের পাঠাগার / Legacy Library
বইয়ের পাতায় বেঁচে থাকুক আমাদের ঐতিহ্য
দেখতে দেখতে এই ক্লাবটা ৫০বছরের দোরগোড়ায়। আমার এই মননের পিছনে এমন বহু মানুষের অবদান আছে যাঁরা আজ আর আমাদের মধ্যে নেই। কিন্তু তাঁদের স্পর্শ এখনো আছে। আমাদের স্বেচ্ছাসেবকরা তাঁদের দান করে যাওয়া প্রচুর বই গুছিয়ে একটা লাইব্রেরি চালায়। চলে যাওয়া মানুষের হাতের লেখা, তাঁদের চিন্তার ছোঁয়া পাওয়া যায় বইগুলো পড়লে। আর বেশিরভাগই বাংলা বই।
লাইব্রেরি বা পাঠাগার। কারণ জানার শেষ নাই, জানার চেষ্টা করো তাই।
The LMBCS Legacy Library celebrates Bengali literature and our shared cultural heritage. Built through the generous donations of Dr. Biswanath and Mrs. Ruby Sen, and Dr. Asoke and Mrs. Radha Chaklader, the collection is maintained by LMBCS member Supriya (Moonmoon) Bhattacharyya. Members are welcome to borrow books, keeping Bengali stories, language, and traditions alive across generations.
